Dutch electronics giant Philips
recently published a glossy cardboard magazine insert, a mini-catalog really,
topped by the headline “Give The Gift of Simplicity” (dull, I
know…they should’ve read this previous post)
and offering free wrapping and shipping of Philips products from their Amazon site.
So far, so what.
But tucked away bottom right,
amongst its relatively benign brethren of Norelco razors, portable DVD
players, single-serve coffee makers and electric toothbrushes was the candy-colored Philips
HeartStart Home Defribrillator, touted by the tagline “Simply designed
so anyone can use it to save a life.”
All jokes aside (and there are pul-lenty!), I’m sure that this device is actually quite practical, but it does
seem a tad out of place as a Christmas gift.
Perhaps Philips should’ve waited until
January to start marketing it…when the credit card bills roll in.
