Here’s a small, sweet Surprise with a
disproportionate Pow! effect.
Monday night, while waiting in a rather long line to pay for (yes, even more!) books at Chapters, I was approached by one of their employees, decked out in a Santa hat and a wide smile.
Her mission? Not to
sell me a “frequent buyer” card or to solicit charitable funds, but to offer me
a chocolate from an overflowing basket of goodies.
“We’ve had long lines all day,” she said. “And this will help take your mind off waiting.”
No thanks, young lady.
Bad for the waistline.
But great for the blog.
Heather Reisman, may your lines be long all year ‘round at Chapters. And may you continue to come up with more wonderful ways to Surprise those waiting in them.
(I don’t wanna brag but we used to
do this at Just For Laughs for the insanely-long lines outside the box-office
on the first day we put our shows on sale. We had performers tell jokes, hold dopey contests, give away t-shirts
and other swag. The “line-tertainers”
had as much fun as those whose wait was lessened by this
attention-deflector. I don’t know why
more people don’t do this at other places where we find ourselves delayed. I would pay a surtax to see it at the
airport, or at border crossings…)
