How utterly cute is this?
Those of you who have to ask why won't get it, even if I explain that some Japanese company
called ROEN (you ain't never seen a logo like theirs, by the way) has teamed up with Medicom and Disney to release a Mickey Mouse figurine replicating the iconic image of Paul Simonon that adorns the classic Clash LP London Calling.
Now this mussin' around with icons is nothing new; Andy Warhol built his career on it by making art of of Campbell's soup cans and Brillo boxes. But by mashing up two emblematic pop culture symbols from opposite ends of the street cred spectrum, you create eye-rubbing out-of-contextness...thus classic Pow!
So, what's next for this mash made in heaven? How about Mickey leaning on Goofy a la The Big Man and The Boss on Springsteen's Born to Run?
Or, better yet, Donald Duck and Daisy doing John and Yoko on Two Virgins. (By the way, that sound you hear is both Walt and John spinning in their graves...)
