The Place: Milestone's Restaurant in Whistler, B.C.
The Situation: The people at the table directly across from me keep staring and pointing.
The Reaction: At first confusion, followed by mild anger. Then I look behind me and notice what has really caught their attention.
The Focal Point: Three colorful, framed lithographs of cutlery, but mis-labeled (i.e. the knife as a spoon; see below).
The Pow! Point: Chalk up another victory for the power of out-of-contextness. While the images themselves were actually quite tasteful, they are as innocuous as the thousands of other images that adorn restaurant walls ad infinitum. But add a touch of incongruity...and they become conversation pieces. And things to point at, as well.
The Point to Ponder: When was the last time YOU pointed at anything on a restaurant wall?
