It starts off foolish, but April gets damn serious real fast thanks (!!!) to tax season in both the USA and Canada. Given the state of the economy and investment portfolios, having to lay out additional funds this month pours industrial-strength road salt into our gaping wounds. Even for those of us lucky to get a refund, the "pennies from heaven" could've and should've been in our hands anyway at an earlier date.
All this said, perhaps one of the most tell-tale quotes I read about the whole financial mess we're in comes from Time Magazine's Justin Fox, who said in an optimistic rant about the bright side of our plight:
"It may also teach Americans, for a few decades at least, that buying and selling houses and financial instruments doesn't bring lasting prosperity. What brings prosperity is work."
