My creative, artistic cousin Joel Kirstein sent me this.
At first, I thought it was one of those eye-rolling, Oy-inducing email jokes that I hate so much, but given the source, I opened it...and was happy I did.
One one level, it's a sweet, simple joke, but going a bit deeper, I think this speaks volumes about consumers and what we consume.
My personal "Brand Day" would feature a whole lot different array of brands (a whole lot more of 'em, too) and suspect would end up defining me more profoundly than I want to be defined. Not only would it showcase the things I love and use, but more importantly, it would expose the irrational dichotomy that makes up me and EVERY ONE OF US...and give marketers a true look-see into a consumer's psyche.
One of these days, I pledge to actually do my own (and show it to you), but I gotta tell you, with school coming back for fall, if I were teaching marketing, this would be the FIRST assignment I would give my class. UPDATE! It's being done. Check this out.
Maybe you wanna take up the challenge?
If so...make sure I'm cc-ed when you send it out.
